Non-MPO teachers stage sit-in in Dhaka

Teachers and employees of non-MPO educational institutions will stage a sit-in and human chain program in the capital today to demand MPO coverage.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) granted permission to hold the program at the Central Shaheed Minar from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday (August 24).
The Bangladesh Non-MPO Teacher-Employee Council organized the demonstration. Police approved the rally under 21 conditions following an application submitted on Sunday.
DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Md Mahbub Hossain Kamal issued the permission letter. He stated that the demonstration must take place peacefully at the designated venue within the scheduled time.
Police conditions require organizers to restrict the event strictly to the approved location. Speakers must refrain from making provocative statements or hurting religious sentiments.
Participants cannot consume drugs or engage in activities that disrupt law and order. Organizers must also arrange their own vehicle parking during the demonstration.
The DMP warning noted that public movement must not be disrupted. Organizing authorities will remain held responsible for any unwanted incidents or chaos.
Meanwhile, Council Member Secretary Md Jahangir Alam said non-MPO teachers have been serving without pay for years. Their sole demand is securing MPO coverage for all eligible institutions.
He added that teachers will continue peaceful programs until their demands are met.
