Noakhali man killed in Saudi Arabia, shooter takes own life

A Bangladeshi expatriate named Md Kamrul Zaman, 37, was shot dead in Taif city of Saudi Arabia.

Following the incident, the attacker, a young Saudi national, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

Deceased Kamrul Zaman was the son of Khorshed Alam of Kazi Bari in Kutubpur village under Ward 3 of Kutubpur Union in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali. He was the father of two children.

Local Union Parishad Member Abu Naser Chowdhury confirmed that the incident took place around 4:00 AM local time on Sunday (August 30) in the Hawaiya area of Taif.

Family sources said Kamrul was returning home after finishing his shift at a supermarket. While standing on the street and talking on his mobile phone with his family, a Saudi youth suddenly opened fire on him.

To save his life, Kamrul ran inside his workplace, the supermarket. Two other employees inside fled in panic. The attacker pursued him inside the store and fired three consecutive rounds at him, killing Kamrul on the spot. Immediately after, the gunman shot himself in the head and died.

Kamrul had migrated to Saudi Arabia about two and a half years ago to earn a livelihood. His father is a farmer. The family received news of his death around 11:00 AM on Sunday.

The motive behind the killing remains unknown. A pall of gloom has descended on the victim's family and local community following his tragic death.
