21 arrested in Noakhali anti-drug drive

Twenty-one people have been arrested in a special anti-drug drive in Noakhali, with 112 yaba tablets and 4 grams of cannabis seized.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Ahmed Peyar confirmed the matter on Monday (August 31). The arrests were made during 18 separate raids across the district on Sunday.

Police said two of the arrestees are suspected drug dealers, while 19 are drug users. Two drug dealers were arrested with 112 yaba tablets in Begumganj.

In Senbagh, 11 people were arrested for drug consumption and sentenced to different terms by mobile courts. Two others were arrested in Sonaimuri and Kabirhat with 2 grams of cannabis each. One was sentenced to 10 days in jail and fined Tk 1,000.

Police said anti-drug operations and awareness campaigns will continue.
