Police have arrested 13 people in special anti-drug operations conducted in various upazilas of Noakhali. A total of 495 yaba tablets were recovered during the operations.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) of Noakhali district, Ahmed Peya, confirmed the information on Friday (September 4). The arrests were made during daylong operations on Thursday.
According to the district police, anti-drug activities were conducted in various police stations and beat areas across the district under the supervision of Police Superintendent N M Nasiruddin.
The operations aimed to raise public awareness about the dangers of drugs, build social resistance against drug abuse and curb drug-related crimes. As part of the campaign, police conducted 20 operations in different areas of the district and arrested 13 people. Among them, four were suspected drug dealers and nine were drug users.
Ahmed Peya further said that three people were arrested in Sudharam Police Station area, four in Begumganj Model Police Station area, four in Senbagh Police Station area, one in Char Jabbar Police Station area with 447 yaba tablets, and one in Kabirhat Police Station area.
Four regular cases have been filed in connection with the arrests. Several of those arrested were also sentenced to imprisonment and fined through mobile courts.
