Salman asks home minister why no case was filed

Content creator and influencer Salman Muqtadir has questioned Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed over why no case was filed after he stayed at the police station until 4:00 AM following the attack on his studio.

In a video posted on his Facebook page at around 3:20 PM on Sunday, Salman responded to the home minister’s comments that his allegations of extortion against the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were broad.

Salman said he had remained at Cantonment Police Station with several people until 4:00 AM after the incident on Saturday night. He questioned why no case had been filed by then or by Sunday afternoon.

He also questioned why the home minister had not provided an update on the case before the incident became widely discussed on social media.

Salman said he had raised the question because ensuring citizens’ security was the responsibility of the home minister.

He also explained why he had mentioned the BNP and extortion in his earlier statements.

Salman said some people detained in connection with the incident had allegedly mentioned the BNP after being beaten, and questioned why he could not mention the BNP while describing what had happened to him.

Earlier on Sunday, Salahuddin told reporters at the Secretariat that the vandalism at Salman’s studio was not related to extortion. He said the incident stemmed from a dispute over around 35 kathas of land in the capital’s Manikdi Namapara area.

The home minister said a preliminary investigation had been conducted and a more detailed probe was needed. Police went to the scene after receiving a call through the national emergency helpline 999.

Police have arrested four people, including the alleged mastermind, over the vandalism of content creator Salman Muqtadir’s Brownfish Studio and an attack on the land at ECB Chattar in the capital. Cantonment Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Gias Uddin confirmed the matter on Sunday (September 27) afternoon.

He said the attack took place following a dispute between New Guinea Properties Ltd, the owner of the studio’s land, and other landowners in the area.

The arrested men are Shahriar, identified as the alleged mastermind, Md Mamun of Bhasantek slum, and Aslam and Munna of Mazumdar Mor area.

The matter remains under investigation.
