Global Fight Against Racial Discrimination Still Far From Goal: Irene Khan

Bangladesh’s UN envoy Irene Khan has said the world is still far from fulfilling its 25-year-old commitment to end racial discrimination.

She made the remarks at an event marking the 25th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA) at the UN in New York on Tuesday.

Khan reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to the full implementation of the DDPA and called for stronger efforts in justice, education, development and international cooperation to address structural discrimination.

She also urged greater protection for migrants, refugees, minorities, women, children and other vulnerable groups.

On artificial intelligence, Khan called for using new technologies for sustainable development instead of spreading hatred and violence, while ensuring human rights and equality.
