UGC chief warns against delays, irregularities in HEAT project

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed has warned that delays and irregularities in implementing sub-projects under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project will not be tolerated.

He said the project's progress was being strictly monitored and necessary action would be taken if serious problems, irregularities or delays were found.

The UGC chairman made the remarks while addressing a mid-term review workshop of the HEAT project at the Agargaon Science Academy on Tuesday.

He said the monitoring was aimed at ensuring timely completion of targets, proper use of funds and quality work, rather than harassing anyone. Projects making satisfactory progress would receive necessary support, while action would be taken against those lagging behind.

Mamun said the five-year project had already used up nearly two years and its implementation needed to be accelerated. He also said a limited extension could be considered if necessary based on specific plans and progress.

The project aims to improve higher education through quality enhancement, job-oriented skills, university-industry links, teacher development, research, innovation and digital transformation. It also includes training for 5,000 teachers and approval of 180 research projects in its first phase.
