Six candidates cleared for Thakurgaon-1 by-election

The Election Commission has declared the nomination papers of all six candidates valid for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, scheduled for October 29.

The decision was announced on Tuesday after scrutiny by Returning Officer and Thakurgaon District Election Officer Md Kamrul Islam.

The candidates are BNP district president Mirza Faisal Amin, district BNP vice-president Obaidullah Masud, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Delawar Hossain, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan candidate Md Abdul Alim Nizami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Hafez Dr Md Khademul Islam, and Bangladesh Congress candidate Hussain Muhammad Omar Faruk.

Candidates can appeal against the scrutiny decision from September 30 to October 4, with the Election Commission scheduled to dispose of the appeals on October 6.

The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is October 7, while electoral symbols will be allocated on October 8. Voting will be held on October 29.
