2 killed in Faridpur separate lightning strikes

A local BNP leader and a farmer were killed in separate lightning strikes while working in fields in Faridpur's Madhukhali upazila on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Md Lutfar Rahman, 47, former general secretary of Ward No. 2 BNP of Arpara union and Azahar Sheikh, 40.

The first incident occurred around 1:30 PM in Madhya Arpara village of Arpara union.

According to locals, Lutfar Rahman was struck by lightning near his home while working in a field. He sustained severe burns on his head and other parts of his body and died en route to the Upazila Health Complex, later confirmed at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Arpara Union Parishad Chairman Md Badruzzaman Babu confirmed the incident.

Madhukhali Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Fakir Md Taizur Rahman said they had received verbal reports of the death.

The second fatality occurred around noon in the Dangi area of Aizuddin Matubbar under Kotwali Police Station.

Azahar Sheikh was struck by lightning while fetching a cow in an open field near his home.

He died on the spot, according to local sources and police.
