At least six members of Ansar force were injured on Friday after being attacked by hawkers for preventing them from setting up stalls on Dhaka-Aricha highway and its adjacent footpaths.
The incident occurred in front of the Savar New Market at Savar Bazar bus stand area.
The injured personnel have been identified as Anas, Shamsuddin, MH Manik, Munna and two others.
According to MH Manik, the team was performing their routine duty of ensuring unobstructed movement for pedestrians when they asked the hawkers to clear the area. The hawkers subsequently became agitated and launched an assault on the duty officers.
Savar Upazila Ansar and VDP Officer Anisur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that three of the six injured members are in critical condition, while the others received primary medical care.
He further noted that Savar Model Police Station has been informed of the matter to ensure legal action against the attackers.
Efforts to reach the officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station, Arman Ali, for an official statement were unsuccessful as he did not respond to multiple phone calls.
