15,000 saplings distributed among Thakurgaon students

THAKURGAON, July 28: Around 15,000 fruit and timber saplings were distributed among students in Thakurgaon on Monday under the government's nationwide tree-plantation campaign aimed at promoting environmental conservation and climate awareness.

The day-long programme covered nearly 50 secondary schools in Thakurgaon Sadar, Baliadangi and Ranishankail upazilas. It was organised by World Vision Bangladesh in collaboration with the District Education Office.

More than 1,000 saplings were distributed at separate events held at Balapara High School and Balapara Girls' High School in Begunbari Union of Thakurgaon Sadar.

Speaking at the programme at Balapara Girls' High School, District Education Officer Shahin Akter said the initiative was intended to encourage students to plant and care for trees, helping protect the environment and increase green cover.

Representatives of the District Education Office, World Vision Bangladesh and local journalists also attended the event. Speakers said involving students in tree planting would help conserve biodiversity, raise climate awareness and contribute to building a greener Bangladesh.

Teachers and students from the participating schools were present.

According to organisers, the campaign was launched in line with the government's target of planting 250 million trees over five years. District Education Officer Shahin Akter thanked World Vision Bangladesh for supporting the initiative.
