Son-in-law allegedly hacks father-in-law to death in Gazipur

A 65-year-old man was killed after being hacked with an axe by his son-in-law in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur friday afternoon.

Majid Morol, the son of the late Altu Morol of Madhyapara in Jamalpur, who is a banana trader, died in the incident. Mozammel Hossain, aged 35, the son of the late Noab Ali Sarker of Uttar Jamalpur, was arrested over the incident.

Sources say Mozammel was already having a long family dispute with his wife, Shahanaz Begum, the victim's daughter. The family members of the victim said Mozammel used to take drugs frequently and beat his wife. Due to which, Shahanaz had often left her husband's house and stayed at her father's house.

Shahanaz told police that Mozammel came to her father's shop friday afternoon carrying a trolley bag. Then he allegedly pulled out an axe from his bag and attacked her father before fleeing the spot and left the trolley behind.

The local people rescued the victim and rushed to the hospital. Later Majid was taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. There the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead at about 6 PM.

Dr Mohammad Ziaur Rahman said Majid was brought to the hospital dead and informed the police.

Kaliganj Police Station OC Mohammad Zakir Hossain confirmed the report and said that the police had visited the site and completed their preliminary investigation. The body was being prepared to send it to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Legal actions have been started in this case. Efforts are being made to arrest the accused.
