Broom procession held in Kushtia against MP Amir Hamza

Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal activists staged a broom procession in Kushtia on Tuesday, protesting alleged derogatory remarks by Kushtia-3 MP Mufti Amir Hamza about reserved women’s seat MP Farida Yasmin.

The procession began in front of Court Station around 1 PM and passed through several key roads before ending at Shahid Chattar at Panch Rastar Mor. The protesters carried brooms during the procession.

A brief rally was held after the procession. Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal leaders condemned the MP’s remarks and vowed to continue political and organisational protests against him.

They alleged that Amir Hamza had made offensive comments about Farida Yasmin, saying such remarks about a woman lawmaker were unacceptable. They also demanded appropriate action against him.

Local and party sources said Amir Hamza made the remarks at a discussion organised by Daulatpur upazila Jamaat-e-Islami at Allardarga Nuruzzaman Auditorium on Monday.

At the programme, Hamza alleged that elected MPs were being excluded from administrative meetings while Farida Yasmin was being included. He also criticised the process of appointing fertiliser dealers in different unions.

He warned that if such activities continued, the people would not spare those responsible.
