Ctg port berth operators seek contract rate adjustment

Berth operators at Chattogram Port have demanded an adjustment of their contract rates following a sharp rise in diesel prices.

The operators said diesel prices have increased by 69% from the rate when they submitted their tenders in 2022, while their contract rates remain unchanged, increasing their operating costs.

The Berth Operators, Ship Handling Operators and Terminal Operators Owners Association sent a letter to the Chattogram Port Authority on Sept 21, seeking a revision of the rates.

Diesel was priced at Tk80 per litre when the tender was submitted in January 2022. It has now risen to Tk135, an increase of Tk55.

Association President Fazle Ekram Chowdhury said they have requested the port authority to adjust the contract rates in line with the rise in fuel prices.

However, Chattogram Port Authority Deputy Traffic Manager Hasina Arzu said no decision has been made on the matter yet.
