624 detained in Cumilla crackdown on teen gangs

Police detained 624 people in a coordinated overnight operation across 18 police stations in Cumilla over suspected involvement in teen gangs.

The drive was conducted on Wednesday night (September 23), said Cumilla Additional Superintendent of Police and Media Officer Lutfor Rahman.

He said the detainees were taken in for questioning and legal action would be taken after verification.

The operation targeted areas in Cumilla city and other parts of the district where reports of youths causing trouble had been received.

Police said the drive was ordered by Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman and would continue regularly to prevent teenagers from becoming involved in criminal activities.

The crackdown comes amid renewed concern over teen gang activities following the killing of 13-year-old Apratim, son of Cumilla University teacher Dr Nahida Begum.
