A tragic drowning incident claimed the life of a six-year-old girl while she was bathing in the Karnaphuli river with her grandfather at Kaptai upazila of Rangamati district.

The deceased was identified as Muskan, daughter of Md. Musa, residing at Silchhari Veluapara area under Wagga union of the upazila.

According to locals, Muskan went to the river around 1:30 PM on Saturday with her grandfather, Md. Yusuf.

At one point during the bath, the grandfather mistakenly assumed that Muskan had finished and returned home. However, upon returning to the house, he came to know that she was not there.

He rushed back to the river and after a frantic search, recovered her body from the water.

Muskan was immediately taken to Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Sarwar Hossain, a member of Ward No. 9 of Wagga Union Parishad, confirmed the incident, stating that the young girl tragically drowned in the blink of an eye without her grandfather's knowledge.
