Five members of a family were injured after allegedly being attacked by a local group in Ashulia for refusing to pay Tk 1 million in extortion, police and victims said.
SAVAR, July 18: Five members of a family were injured after an alleged extortion-linked attack at their home in Ashulia's East Sadarpur area on Friday night.
Victims alleged that around 40-50 armed men attacked their house after they refused to pay Tk 1 million in extortion. They claimed the attackers vandalized the house, looted Tk 200,000 in cash and about 2.5 bhori of gold ornaments, and attempted to sexually assault a teenage girl.
Police rescued the injured after receiving a 999 emergency call and sent them to hospital.
One of the accused, Shahjahan Saju, denied involvement, saying he had only gone to the scene to help settle the dispute.
Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam said legal action would be taken after receiving a written complaint and completing an investigation.
