Probe committee formed after father, son injured in alleged stabbing by train staff

A five-member investigation committee has been formed after a father and his son were allegedly stabbed by a train staff member at Kushtia Court Railway Station, an incident that disrupted train services and left the Sundarban Express stranded for nearly one hour and 40 minutes.

The committee, formed by the Pakshi Railway Division, includes the CRNB, DTO, DCO, DME (C&W) and DMO.

The injured were identified as Shafiul Awal Sumon, 40, and his father Abdur Rahim, 65. They later received medical treatment.

According to railway sources, the incident occurred at Kushtia Court Railway Station on Saturday when an altercation broke out between passengers and railway officials and staff aboard the Dhaka-bound Sundarban Express.

The train arrived at the station at 12:25 pm and departed at its scheduled time of 12:30 pm. However, three minutes later, at 12:33 pm, the train was brought to a halt after its emergency chain was pulled.

Railway sources said the emergency chain was pulled following a verbal altercation between train staff and passengers, leading to an unexpected situation. As a result, the train remained at the station until 2:13 pm, causing a delay of one hour and 40 minutes and disrupting the journeys of passengers.

West Zone Railway General Manager Farid Ahmed said a five-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident and that it has already begun its work.

On Saturday, passengers and local residents staged a protest and blocked the Dhaka-to-Khulna-bound Sundarban Express after allegations emerged that a train staff member had stabbed the father and son at Kushtia Court Railway Station.
